I’m a writer, and something else. I’m born Indonesian, and most probably will die Indonesian too. I wrote since, oh, I don’t know –maybe since I’m around 10 (in 1980). But I’ve got published for the first time around 1993. I write since for many Indonesian newspapers and magazines (Tempo, Kompas, Republika, Koran Tempo, Gatra, Visual Arts Magazine, Madina, etc.)
Few of my books already published, and I’m still trying to publish some others. It’s an ongoing battle, you know. My interest as writer is, you guessed it, popular culture. But I use the term quite loosely, based on my affinity with Stuart Hall’s and Fiske’s theories on the subject. So, don’t be alarmed if sometimes I talk about city development or religious believe. They kinda fall into the territory.
But, yeah, I specialized in comics and movies. I’m practically a non-academic-researcher in those area, as you can see it yourself in Rumahfilm.org or my other blog, hikmatdarmawan.multiply.com. Or, as they say it in this sublime digi-babble epoch, just google me. 🙂
Oh, and I’m also a perennial loser. That’s something else, right? Right.
Well, enough about me. How about you?
